Band

Symphonic Band(Advanced): The Symphonic Band is a full year class and is an auditioned ensemble for seventh and eighth grade students with at least one year of previous instruction in wind or percussion instruments. The ensemble consists of modern band instrumentation and provides instruction in advanced instrumental skills such as instrumental technique, proper embouchure, hand position, posture, listening and breathing skills, as well as an emphasis on advanced concepts of rhythm, tone production, ensemble balance and blend, and an overall ensemble sonority. The Symphonic Band is a class that meets every day and performs in several Concerts, Festivals, Basketball games, and Parades each year. Private study is encouraged but not required. Thirty minutes a day of practice at home is expected.

Drum Line: The NSB Drum Line is an ensemble that will meet before/ after school as an extension of the Marching Band and is open to Advanced Band students who play Percussion or Battery instruments. An audition may be required to participate in this ensemble. During Drum Line rehearsals, we will study percussion fundamentals as it pertains to Marching Drum Line to prepare for the holiday parades.

Jazz Band: The NSB Jazz Band is a full year class and is open by audition to all students with prior musical knowledge. Preference is given to standard Big Band instruments (Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano) but not traditional instruments will be considered if space permits. During Jazz rehearsals, we will study Jazz fundamentals as it pertains to the idiom. Students will need to attend all rehearsals and performances in order to participate in the ensemble. The NSB Jazz Band will perform in several Concerts, Festivals, and community or school events each year. Private study is encouraged but not required. Thirty minutes a day of practice at home is required in addition to regular Band class practice. ALL Students who are in Jazz Band Must be enrolled in Advanced Band in order to participate.
